Mind

sparkly brainOur mental health is a key element in life balance. Are we trying to do too much? Are we keeping ourselves fit mentally? Stress and overwork can overwhelm our mental processes, making every little irritant in life seem much worse than it is. And letting your mind get lazy can have lasting effects on your quality of life.

One of the best ways to keep our mind fit and healthy is by engaging in the world around us. Awareness and curiosity are important elements which help keep the mind active and always ready to learn. How can we foster these habits? Read. Read fiction to find out about the inner lives of others, read nonfiction for examples of how (or how not) to live your life or to satisfy some curiosity about the world around us. Do puzzles, play games, memorize and recite poetry or songs, learn an instrument, create a piece of artwork or build something from scratch, do something outside of your regular routine.

By observing our mental habits we can find new ways to approach wellness. Meditation can help still the mind long enough for us to see ourselves thinking. Meditation can take many forms, from the traditional meaning of the word to practices like knitting, walking, or writing. To be aware of the workings of our own mind is to take an important step toward happiness and health.

To support mental fitness, we recommend our workshop “Sparking your Creativity”.
