Spirit

chartreslabyrinth

Four Rooms approaches spirit as a concept of self, and the integration of self into the world around you. Simply being alive and aware in this world can be a spiritual act. What nurtures our souls? How do we care for the earth and all its living things? What gives us the sense that there is more to human life than the humdrum routine we experience day to day? Why are we here at all?

A spiritual life consists of compassion, awareness and gratitude for what has been given to us by virtue of being born on this Earth. We can raise our consciousness to one of love and caring, trying to rise above the easy habits of negativity, blame and victim thinking. This is a constant, lifelong process in which we circle around to places we thought we had left behind, only to discover there are new lessons to be learned. It is a never ending journey, full of joy and transcendent moments for those who choose to experience them.

When we become aware of the miracle of life we see things with a long view, realizing that everything goes back to the beginning, to the seed of divinity that is within every living being. Nurturing this awareness of the interconnectedness of life is a spiritual act, and one in which writing and reflection can play an important role.
